Possibly an antique from the 1851 Crystal Palace Great Exhibition, this cup and saucer were manufactured in Germany and may be 174 years old!
This dainty cup and saucer are made of white porcelain and decorated with gold accents, featuring a leaf-shaped saucer and a cup with a scalloped rim and wave-like patterns. The Crystal Palace was originally built in Hyde Park, London, for the Great Exhibition of 1851. After the exhibition, it was moved and rebuilt in Sydenham in 1854. Souvenirs, like this demitasse cup and saucer, were commonly produced to commemorate the event. The cup and saucer were manufactured in Germany, a known producer of souvenir items during that era.
